A family of four and a dog
Joe, Erin, Elliott, Nolan and our dog Mini. We’re life long Detroiters recently set out for some adventure and experience. It’s been two weeks since we sold our house, sold our stuff, gave away our stuff, stored our stuff and threw away our stuff. We are currently in Brookline, NH Old Orchard Beach, ME. Our plan at the moment is to hang around in the north east for a couple of months. The boys are going to Woodward at the end of August, followed by a trip back to Detroit for a couple days, then off to Erin’s cousin’s wedding in Chicago. We’ll be wintering in Florida and the south west. That’s about as far ahead as we’ve planned so far.

Update January 2018 - We’ve paused full time travel and are now situated in the burbs of Phoenix. Almost six months and over 14,000 miles traveled. Here in Phoenix we’re central to and within a days drive to much of the great adventure of southwest. I’m slowly catching up writing about our past travels from Chicago to Ft Lauderdale and west to AZ.
Force
The boys, Erin and I all seem to be at a physical capabilities intersection right now. We want to take full advantage of this in the form of physical activity. External force on our world. Skateboarding (yes, Erin and I too!), biking, hiking, swimming, boating, and so forth. If done right, we’ll all be pushing one another and no one will be too far behind, or too far ahead. All four of us pushing forward together. Of course it’s impossible for this to be a rule. This might be wishful thinking or maybe a path toward some rhythm we’re yet to figure out (I’ve never been accused of having good rhythm - uh oh).
Council
We aim to be open to learning about and understanding cultures, experiences, people, places, nuances and subtleties. We want to learn about learning. We want to see what’s around the bend; see what’s “out there”. Feel change. Most importantly we want to take this time to learn from one another and learn about one another (I’m assuming Erin and the kids will agree when they read this haha!). Our boys are 13 and 16 and their childhood has been a blur! Maybe (hopefully) we’ll be able to slow time down a little bit on this trip.
Colophon
This blog was started in July 2017. We aim to use these writings to keep family and friends updated on our goings-on, travels and ideas while we’re out of town.
